Desk & bookcase, no date. Mother-of-pearl. South America. The form is based on an early 18th-century English design for what was then called a “desk and bookcase” and is now more often called a “bureau”. via V&A

Pages from the book Mid-Century Modern Complete by Dominic Bradbury, 2014. Published by Thames and Hudson, London.
Encyclopaedic survey & classic table book, impressive as a gift and really attractively made, exquisite time travel. If you are a newbie to this fascinating era, this is the perfect approach to learn more about the many forms and names and products around the world, which is quite a task. Imagine all the furniture, lighting, glass, ceramics, textiles, graphics, architecture that was created during those decades – I wouldn’t dare to name something “Complete” as there is always more to discover, but it’s a vision, so be it. Lots of information & inspiration to dive deeper, pool position for starters.
